Solar mounts to the ceiling and uses a single small gear motor. This gear motor rotates sphere like shapes in an orbital pattern around the center axis. As well as smaller orbits around another, off set, axis. Similar to the movement of the moon’s orbit around the earth. and the earth’s orbit around the sun.
Solar was origianlly sold in 2002 to a restaurant in the Salt Lake City area. Sometime between then and now it closed, and all artwork went into storage. Early in 2005 that restaurant changed management and Solar was updated to fit the new space where it is located now in Provo, Utah. This update can be seen in the video compared to when the photograph was taken.
